Food Plots
What should I plant?
When it comes to Food Plots there are no hard percentages of total acreage that should be set aside for them. It depends heavily on: the habitat; the surrounding land use and if it is cropland, what is planted there; and other food sources available such as apples and acorns.
You must balance the food plot acreage to the amount of cover and other food sources that are available. For example, in heavily forested areas with few food sources available, you're food plot acreage may be 15% or more of your total acreage. In farm country with little cover and abundant food sources available, your food plot acreage may only be 2 to 3% of your total acreage.
